File Your Insurance Claim with Your Agent

Immediately take steps to prevent the loss from getting any worse and start to clean up. You do not have to wait for a claims adjuster. Attend to injured people and protect your property, then call or email your insurance agent to file the claim. Contact your insurance agent.

When reporting an auto or property claim, have the following information ready:

» Date and location of the occurrence
» Insurance card
» Police department involved and report number

» Insurance and contact information of other person
» General description of what happened

When reporting a life insurance claim, have the following information ready:

» Insured's full name
» Date of birth
» State of residence

» Policy number(s)
» Date of death
» Cause of death

Report all workers compensation claims to the carrier directly. (See list on right.)

The Claims Process

Each claim is unique, which means that the claims handling process varies depending upon the type and size of the claim. Your claim handling begins with an investigation of the facts. You will be contacted within 24 hours of the receipt of your claim by a claims representative. The claims representative gathers the facts of the loss from those involved and reviews your policy to confirm applicable coverage and limits.

We work with you to finalize all of the paperwork necessary to document your loss and assist you with getting your life and property back to pre-accident condition.

How soon do I have to file a claim?
Notify your agent at Spectrum Insurance as soon as reasonably possible.

How long does it take to process a claim?
Automobile claims are usually processed in only a few days and payment is usually issued within 24 hours once you and your adjuster have agreed on the repairs. For total loss situations and more complex accidents like those where injuries are involved, the amount of time until you receive your check varies.

Property claims vary depending on the extent of the damage. Your homeowners' policy may have replacement cost coverage on the structure and your personal property. If it does, full reimbursement for replacement costs may take place in the form of two or more payments. You receive an initial payment from the adjuster with the estimate. This initial payment is for the full cost or for the actual cash value of the repair. If the payment is for actual cash value, an "amount deferred" is listed on the claim settlement report. This amount can be claimed upon completion of the work.
